- Alida Harper Fowlkes left her home in trust to the Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Georgia. The Society of the Cincinnati was founded after the American Revolution by George Washington and the officers of the U. S. and French armies. Members of the Society must be male descendants of these men. There are 13 state societies, representing the original 13 colonies, and one society in Paris, France.
